Mapping System for Car Location

An existing system running on an IBM mainframe, required enhancements to provide street intersection lookups. This was accomplished by adding additional entry screens looking up intersections in a VSAM file.

In order to provide data for the VSAM file, a system was created using Mapinfo mapping databases as the source. The system analyzed street geographic information, and calculated which streets intersected, then logged these intersections into a FoxPro database together with latitude/longitude. The database was then converted into a flat file in the EBCDIC character set for conversion into a VSAM file.
